About the Online Directory

The UNB Alumni Online Directory has been established to assist our graduates in keeping in touch with each other. Its sole intended purpose is that of facilitating personal communication among friends.

Registering on this site by you — our alumni — is totally voluntary. The information you register will be available to anyone. You will have the opportunity to enter as much — or as little — personal and professional information about yourself as you wish. Your information will be password protected by you during the registration process. With that password, you will be able to update your information — new child, new mailing address, new e-mail address, new job, etc. — at any time.

Here are some FAQs about the Online Directory:

Who controls the information about me on the Online Directory?

You do. Any information you submit on your initial login or subsequent updates to your file is your responsibility. The Associated Alumni will not be responsible for the veracity of the information in the individual files.

As you will note when you sign on, you first have to verify that you are indeed a UNB graduate. That is why the first screen you come to in the registration process asks for your alumni ID number (in most cases that will be your old student ID number; for further information click here) and your name as it appears on the mailing label of your UNB Alumni News. The information you enter is compared against a database containing the same information to confirm your status as a UNB alum. (If you do not know your ID number and /or precisely how your name is registered in this database, send an e-mail with your name and degree/year and the information will be returned to you.)

Once that process is completed, you then proceed to a screen where you select your own password (with a backup process included) that will allow you access your file at any future date to make whatever changes you wish.

After that, you file whatever personal and professional information about yourself that you wish. The minimum information you must file is your last name, first name, degree/year, campus and e-mail address. How much more information you register after that is up to you.

When you submit your information, the data is reviewed in the Alumni Office before being posted. This review is done only to ensure that material offensive or threatening to other alumni is not included. (We are confident this will never be the case.) Minor style points in the entries may be corrected, ex. changing "U.S." in the country field to "USA" to ensure consistency when the Search function is used.

Finally, a copy of your entry is forwarded to our Records Office for a review of any updated information pertinent to your file in our confidential alumni database.

Is the directory hard to use?

We've tried our best to make the registration process as simple as possible. We hope the procedure is self-explanatory, but should you need assistance or direction, just e-mail us and we'll get right back to you.

What is the Associated Alumni Electronic Newsletter?

The UNB Alumni News, published three times a year and distributed to all 60,000 of our alumni, is the primary method of communication between the association, the university and its graduates. It will remain so, particularly with the realization that not everyone uses, or even has access to, the web.

However, because technology now allows more ways for us to communicate, the UNB Associated Alumni wants to take advantage of these new technologies to keep in closer touch with you.

Should you opt to sign on to receive the Electronic Newsletter, you will periodically receive by e-mail news and information about the association's activities. We will ensure that these communications are not too frequent, and we will make judicious use of this avenue of contact.

And should you wish to cancel your subscription, a convenient form on the Online Directory homepage will allow you to do so.

How do I search the database to find my friend?

A search engine can be used through a link on the Online Directory homepage. You can search for individuals by surname, former surname, city, province, country, campus, degree/year or any combination thereof.

All attempts have been made to make the use of the database to find your friends as flexible as possible.

Can I remove my entry?

Yes. As noted earlier, the information on the directory is yours. Should you ever decide to remove your entry, simply go to the Update page, call up your file, and remove it (although we hope you don't.)

I have a question

If there's anything else you'd like to know about the UNB Associated Alumni Online Directory, just e-mail us and we'll get back to you.

Thank you for your interest.
