Gretchen Kelbaugh (BEd'79, BA'92) of Quispamsis, N.B., a full-time filmmaker and writer, has finished her feature educational documentary, Menocracy, about how to quickly get more women elected to governments in Canada, the U.S. and the U.K., and the urgent need for this. Anne Mannette-Wright (Newcombe, BScCS'82, MScCS'84) of Rochester, N.Y., finally received her doctorate in computer science in August 2009 from Pace University in New York. Anne is now employed by IBM. Her daughter Julie graduated with her doctorate in chemical and biological engineering from the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colo., in December 2009. Julie is employed as a research scientist at Edwards LifeSciences in Los Angeles, Calif.

Alfred H. Brien (BBA'67, LLB'69) was honoured with the 2009 Outstanding Achievement Award of the Schizophrenia Society of Canada. Judge Brien advocated for, developed and implemented the Saint John Mental Health Court, which he has presided over for nine years. This court provides a team approach to therapeutic justice for people in conflict with the law due to mental illness or intellectual disabiliy.

Brian Seaman (LLB'92) made a presentation about Canada's Youth Criminal Justice Act and Charter of Rights issues at a conference in Buenos Aires this past December. The conference was at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) faculty of law, and was sponsored by UNICEF to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. He is working with an Argentinian colleague on a paper about child sex prostitution in Argentina for the UBA Law Review. Anyone with an interest in this area or who has questions about the legal and political systems of Argentina can contact him at bseaman@ucalgary.ca.

Charles Humphrey (BA'70) of Barrie, Ont., retired from his law firm at the end of 2008 after practising labour and employment law in Toronto for 30 years. He began 2009 with an intensive French-language program at the Institute de Francais in Villefranche just outside of Nice followed by four months at his second home near Toulouse, France. In September 2009, he began a new career with his appointment to the Ontario Labour Relations Board as a vice-Chair. He is also practising as a labour arbitrator.

Jon Bradford (BScChE'93) of Millington, Tenn., returned in April 2009 from another deployment, this time onboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), flying the E-2C Hawkeye's of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 124 (VAW-124) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom over the skies of Afghanistan. Lt.-Cmdr. Bradford served as the squadron's operations officer, maintenance officer, and senior airborne battlespace command and control mission commander. In November 2009, he transferred to Navy Personnel Command in Millington, Tenn., to be his community's placement officer. This is his first non-flying "desk job" in 12 years. However, it is a great opportunity to help his peers manage their careers to ensure their promotion and success. If any UNB alumni are in the Memphis, Tenn., area, shoot him an e-mail.

Tyler Langdon (BBA'00, LLB'02) and Andrea Langdon (Gilliss, LLB'04) of Florenceville, N.B., were married on a beautiful sunny day on Aug. 22, 2009. The wedding was held outdoors at their home. Following the wedding, they spent two weeks in Bora Bora, French Polynesia, before returning back to the "real world." Subsequent to returning, Andrea opened her own general practice law firm. Tyler continues to be employed as counsel to McCain Foods Limited.

Donna (Amy) Ciotti (Woodside, BN'65) of Brantford, Ont., passed away at the Brantford General Hospital on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, at the age of 66 after a 10-year battle with cancer. Loving wife of Donald (BA'64) for 44 years. Adored mother of Allison Sinclair, Heather Morrison and Cameron Ciotti. Cherished grandmother of Cecilia, Cassidy, Daniel and Olivia. Donna and Don met at UNB and married in the summer of 1965 on Prince Edward Island. Donna retired in October 2009 from the Community Care Access Center in Brantford. She is dearily missed by her co-workers, friends and family and especially her husband Donald.

Greg Forestell (BPE'91), after serving as deputy chief coroner since 2007, was appointed chief coroner for the Province of New Brunswick by the lieutenant-governor in council on Nov. 19, 2009. Greg lives in Quispamsis, N.B., with his wife Willa (Jones, BPE'91), and children Sam, Rachel, Joseph and Abigail. Brian Owens (BA'02) is currently deployed as a lieutenant (N) with the Canadian Forces as the task force public affairs officer onboard HMCS Fredericton. The ship is on patrol in the Gulf of Aden and Arabian Sea, off the Horn of Africa, conducting counter-piracy and counter-terror operations in support of NATO. The ship will complete her mission in May 2010.

Sara Jenkins (BA'06) was conferred her MA in political science (international relations) at the University of Ottawa in the spring of 2009. For the duration of her studies, Sara was awarded the University of Ottawa Graduate Admission Scholarship. Her MA thesis was entitled Gendered Hierarchies and World Order: A critical analysis of the instrumentalization of gender within the UN discourse on gender vulnerability to AIDS. Upon completion of her degree, Sara was awarded the University of Ottawa Dean´s Scholarship. She is now living in Costa Rica with her partner, Simon Theobald (BA'06).

Simon Theobald (BA'06) was conferred his MA in Canadian history at the University of Ottawa in the fall of 2008. Chuck (Charles) Nicolle (BBA'90, MEd'07) of Calgary has been appointed manager, capability development, for Imperial Oil Limited in Calgary, after spending about five years with the company's IT department and five years with human resources (obtaining CHRP in 2008). He also was a part-time instructor at UNBSJ for three terms with the business faculty teaching Introduction to HR before moving from Saint John to Calgary. Fulton (LLB'88) of Toronto completed his master of laws (LLM) from York University, Osgoode Hall Law School, in 2006 and completed his major paper on the "Judicial Recognition of the Duty of Good Faith in Commercial Contracts." Mr. Fulton has just been granted the certified specialist designation in civil litigation by the law Society of Upper Canada. The Law Society of Upper Canada certifies only a small percentage of lawyers in Ontario as specialists. Ashley O'Brien (BSc'00) was successful in his anesthesiology specialty examinations this spring in Ottawa. As such, Dr. O'Brien is now entitled to use the designation of FRCPC (Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada).
